Adding more items like red iris flowers to the game
I think it would be a nice addition which would not harm anyone. However for some it would improve the game experience. I think about adding items which appear randomly and do not drop from monsters.
They do not need to have any special abilities like Zehtukas items but as red iris flowers have some collectors and some small basic merchant value (and be stackable of course). I would place such items in various areas of NF, Factions, and post-searing ascalon.
What kind of items could be added? Some shells in Jade Sea some special leaves in Echovald Forest, some bug carapaces in NF etc. or even iris flowers of different colours such as blue or yellow.
Some can be common as red iris flowers some can be rare.
I know such things are better when they are developed at the beginning of a game existence but actually why not now anyway?

I agreed with that, would be cool to have rare items too as you suggested, maybe a collector could give some special consumeables for a random amount of each flower\collecable, the the more rare the item it the better items collector would give. I look forward to see how this goes.

ONLY if they had no sale value to the merchant. Even the 5g from the Red Iris Flowers can allow for infinite cash if someone is willing to collect them. And they drop all the time in some areas (always in Gwen's Garden). Even though it would be slower than farming, we really don't need a way for people to get money for nothing.
Collectors would need to provide AVERAGE items at best. Nothing inscribable, and no max armor. Sorry, but we really don't need 'free' things. We already have the Xunlai Tournament House for that (if they get it fixed right).

The whole game allows for infinite cash... why do you think they add so many gold sinks? And frankly, if someone is willing to spend hours and hours collecting red iris flowers to make money, then its not exactly something for nothing, is it? I really doubt the implementation of this would be in any way earth shattering or game breaking. I think this would be a nice idea really.
That being said, there are already way too many items in Guild Wars, to the point that they had to add a large and significant amount of storage to each character/account. Not sure having more flowers, etc. to pick up would be worth the effort of adding them to the game.

Seems like adding more clutter might not be a good idea. There are plenty of places you can pick up Red Iris.

I don't mind. We already have chests.
But instead adding collectors for them, such items could have some use themselves.
Things like a candy you found on the ground and you eat at your own risk or a hunter ale that someboy forgot, or a dungeon map inside aa dungeon without using light of deldrimor or the actual map...
That could be nice. But remember that in many cases people may rush to get the items, since those items usually appear without being assigned.

I agree. You could even make it "fun" by having simple things like "lost backpack" with a miscellaneous item in it.

I like the original idea, and ^this^ specifically. It enriches the game world.

It would be nice, but not something I'd want ANet to go back and do.

Sounds like something out of Runescape. :\
Anyways, I really don't see why. We already have red iris flowers, we don't need more random spawning items that have collectors (we have enough of those too, tbh). Wouldn't have minded if ANet added more of this back in Prophecies, but not now.

Ive playd Perfect world for some time inbetween , The thing I liked over there
and prob. is in many MMO's is the fact that you could harvest al kind of flowers and plants, stones etc. Ofcourse this is for other purpose (making potions, armors etc.)
But they could be there just for collecting, and that makes exploring more fun.
So yes.. pls do

/notsigned for Guild Wars, too late in the game-life for additional collectable items
/signed for Guild Wars 2 whole-heartedly! I like the idea of different colored iris', maybe four colors similar to the DOA gemstones....collect enough of each color for __________.

It's a nice idea and I would not mind it... BUT
It is too late in GW's existence and the items / flowers should not have any real inherent game-value or an special items from collector's, normal items (blue) are fine.
This sort of reminds me of fishing in WoW, to get a special pet, much like the Cactus idea earlier in this thread...
And anything is exploitable if given the smallest amount of leeway... I can just see gold farmers / bots picking up flowers / items for hours on end if it has any real value. In this day and age, virtually anything is exploitable.
I will agree to something like this in GW2, but then it must be well balanced and incorporated into the game as a whole. Perhaps picking something up and unlocking a small bit of Trivia in the game, some lore perhaps, etc.
